Oh, what a town we have!

Welcome to historic Keytesville, Missouri, county seat of Chariton County.  Founded in 1817 on the banks of the Chariton and Missouri Rivers, formerly named Chariton, the town became Keytesville when repeated flooding forced it to higher ground.  Methodist preacher and entrepreneur James Keyte donated land for the new town site in 1833; thus its name became Keytesville. Over the years Keytesville has been the home of Confederate General Sterling Price (Eleventh Governor of Missouri); birthplace of General Maxwell Taylor (Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff 1955-59); and sports star Cal Hubbard (Football & Baseball Halls of Fame).

Each September Keytesville hosts Sterling Price Day, a weekend event featuring a queen contest, parade, crafts, food and more.  Enjoy your visit to our web site.
